Where premade pouch filling fits

A premade pouch machine fills pouches that were made by a pouch converter. It is chosen when the pack needs retail features such as a zipper, a spout or a stand-up base, or when several pouch sizes run on one machine.

The nine configurations in this family follow two routes. Pick-fill-seal pouch machines, with the LV-210 as the reference model, handle stand-up and zipper pouches for coffee beans, fruit, gummies, snacks, sauces and beverages. Spout pouch fillers, with the LV-160 as the reference model, fill larger spout pouches of laundry liquid, detergent and beer.

How a pick-fill-seal pouch machine works

Grippers hold the pouch as it indexes between stations. Changing to a different pouch width means adjusting or changing the grippers, so list every pouch size you plan to run.

Spout pouch configurations work differently. The pouch is typically held by the spout, filled through it and closed with a cap. Confirm the spout diameter, cap type and whether capping is included.

Use the finished pouch as the starting point

Provide pouch samples and dimensions, including zipper, gusset or spout features. Opening behavior and the fill opening must be considered before selecting a machine arrangement.

Pouches from different suppliers, or different batches, can open differently. Send pouches from the supplier you will use in production.

• Target fill and product clearance at the seal

Filling solids and liquids into pouches

Solids such as gummies, dried fruit and snacks are usually weighed by a multihead weigher above the filling station. Powders use an auger. Sauces and beverages use a pump, and the catalog sauce configuration lists servo piston dosing with an anti-drip nozzle.

With liquids, the fill level must stay clear of the seal and product must not splash onto the seal area as the pouch moves. Seal quality through a liquid-filled pouch should be checked on a trial.

Define failed-pouch handling

Discuss how missing pouches, opening failures and seal concerns should be detected and handled in the proposed configuration. Do not assume inspection functions are standard inclusions.

• What happens when no pouch is picked, or a pouch does not open
• Whether product is held back when a pouch is missing
• How pouches with a suspect seal or incorrect weight are rejected
• Checkweighing and metal detection after the machine, if required

Premade pouch or vertical form fill seal

A VFFS machine makes the bag from roll film, which usually costs less per pack, and suits long runs of a few bag sizes. A premade pouch machine handles zippers, spouts and shaped stand-up pouches and changes size by adjusting grippers rather than changing a forming set.

Output, pouch cost, format range and the retail finish you need all feed into the decision. It is worth discussing both routes when the pack could be made either way.

What to send for an evaluation

Send pouch samples, the pouch specification, the product description, fill weights or volumes and the output you need. A short video of the current process helps. The quantities of pouches and product for any trial are agreed with the team before shipping.

Questions buyers ask about premade pouch machines

Can one machine run several pouch sizes? Yes, within its range, by adjusting or changing the grippers and related parts. List the sizes so the change parts and changeover steps are included in the quotation.

Are liquids possible on a pick-fill-seal machine? Catalog configurations include juice, milk-style drinks and sauces. Pouch material, fill level and seal quality through liquid are confirmed on a trial.

Is zipper reclosing included? It depends on the configuration. State whether the zipper must be opened for filling and closed again before sealing.
