Pharmaceutical Packaging Machines: Sachets, Cartons and Overwrap

Updated October 2026

Ask for a pharmaceutical packaging machine without naming the step and the quotations will not compare: a tablet press, a blister former, a cartoner and a labeler are different machines. Start from the step and the pack. We build pharmaceutical packaging machines for the steps after the dose is made: multi-lane stick pack and sachet machines for pharmaceutical, probiotic and supplement powders, cartoners for blister packs, bottles and stick packs, 3D overwrapping machines for medicine and supplement boxes, and labelers for ampoules and vials. This page gives the listed figures for each machine, links our configurations, explains how to choose by pack, output and powder, and lists what to send for a quotation.

Everything you need to evaluate a pharmaceutical packaging machine

Find the machine for your packaging step, compare the listed figures, then check pack size, output, powder behavior and site before you ask for a quotation.

Pharmaceutical packaging machine models at a glance

Three of our pharmaceutical packaging machines with three listed figures each: a powder stick packer, a cartoner for bottles and blister packs, and a box overwrapper. The cartoner speed is listed in bags per minute; we confirm cartons per minute at your count per carton. Open a machine for its full specification table.

Pharmaceutical packaging machines by packaging step

Choose by the step you need to automate, then by the pack. Pharmaceutical and supplement powders go into stick packs or flat sachets on a multi-lane form fill seal machine. Blister packs, bottles and stick packs go into folding cartons, with a leaflet, on a cartoner. Medicine and supplement boxes are wrapped in clear film with a tear tape on a 3D overwrapping machine. Ampoules and vials are labeled and coded on a labeling machine.

Tablet pressing, capsule filling, blister forming and counting tablets into bottles are not among the machines on this page. If your project includes one of those steps, tell us what you need and we confirm whether it is within our supply scope. Pharmacy pill-dispensing machines are a different product and are not covered here.

Our pharmaceutical packaging machines

Each card is one machine type. Where a model publishes figures, the card shows them; where the figures are confirmed per project, the card lists the features to ask for. The links lead to our configuration pages for that machine.

How to choose a pharmaceutical packaging machine

Four checks narrow each step to one machine: does your pack fit the listed size range, does the machine reach your good output, do its dosing and protection suit your product, and does it fit the room. Run them in that order, because a pack that does not fit makes the other checks irrelevant.

1. Check the pack against the listed sizes

  • Stick packs: the LV-400BF series lists sticks 50–150 mm long and 20–65, 20–85 or 20–105 mm wide, by model. Flat three- and four-side seal powder sachets are compared by width on the powder stick pack and sachet machines page.
  • Boxes for overwrapping: the LV-BT280 / LV-BT350 lists boxes 40–200 mm long, 20–120 mm wide and 10–70 mm high. A box outside that range needs a separate review.
  • Blister packs and bottles for cartoning: no carton size range is published for our pharmaceutical cartoners. Send the blister size or the bottle height and diameter, the count per carton and a carton blank, and we check the carton size from them.
  • Vials and ampoules: send the container diameter and height and the label size. Small formats are checked with samples.

2. Size the machine from good output

A listed speed is the range of the machine, not a rate for your pack. Convert it to the unit you plan with:

  • Stick packs: one cut releases one stick from every running lane. Hypothetical example: at an assumed 30 cuts per minute on 8 lanes, an LV-680BF forms 30 × 8 = 240 sticks per minute, before rejects, reel changes and cleaning stops. This is a calculation, not a rating for any model.
  • Boxes: the overwrapper lists 30–80 boxes/min and the figure depends on box size, so ask for the rate on your box.
  • Cartons: give the sticks, blisters or bottles per minute and the count per carton. Cartons per minute follow from those two numbers, and the cartoner is sized from them.

3. Match dosing and protection to the powder

  • Probiotics and other sensitive actives lose activity with moisture and oxygen. The probiotic configurations list nitrogen flushing and high-barrier aluminium-foil laminates. If you work to a residual-oxygen target, state it and have it measured in a trial on your film.
  • Fine pharmaceutical powders are dusty and can carry static. Powder on the seal area leads to leaking packs, so the pharmaceutical powder configurations list vacuum extraction at the dosing nozzle and the sealing jaws.
  • Collagen, protein and other sticky supplement powders need a dose that can be set lane by lane. With a separate servo auger on each lane, one lane can be corrected without stopping the others. Ask for the fill accuracy on your own powder in a trial.
  • Frequent product changes add cleaning time. The pharmaceutical sachet machine lists split, swing-open hoppers and tool-free auger release, and the modular powder packer a quick-change format. Say how often you change product and how you clean between batches.
  • Contact-part material differs by configuration: SUS304 or SUS316L on the LV-400BF series, SUS316L on the quick-change pharmaceutical powder packer and on the cartoner for blister and bottle packs. State the material you need and the documents you expect with the machine, and we confirm what we supply.

4. Agree the leaflet, codes and checks

Our pharmaceutical cartoners list leaflet folding and insertion, one lists a check that stops a carton leaving without its leaflet, and one adds vision inspection with automatic rejection. Tell us what must be checked, such as a missing blister, a missing leaflet or an unreadable code, and where the batch and expiry codes are printed: on the stick, the carton or the vial label. We then confirm which checks and coders the machines carry.

5. Check the site

  • Power: the LV-400BF series lists 220 V, 50/60 Hz at 4.5, 6 or 7.5 kW by model; the LV-BT280 / LV-BT350 lists 220/380 V, 50/60 Hz at 4.5 kW; the LV-GS150 lists 4.5 kW at 50 Hz. Give the voltage, phase and frequency at the machine position.
  • Height and floor: stick packers are tall, 2680–2950 mm across the LV-400BF series before any powder feeder above the hopper. The LV-GS150 measures 1540 × 1375 × 2270 mm and weighs 500 kg; the overwrapper 2100 × 850 × 1500 mm at about 550 kg.
  • Compressed air and room: state the air pressure available at the machine and any room conditions you work to, such as temperature and humidity for hygroscopic powders. The requirement for each machine is confirmed in the quotation.

Joining stick packing, cartoning and overwrapping into one line

A line runs at the pace of its slowest machine, and each machine counts in its own unit: cuts on the stick packer, cartons on the cartoner, boxes on the overwrapper. Convert them to one unit before you compare quotations for different stations.

Hypothetical example: an assumed 30 cuts per minute on 10 lanes forms 300 sticks per minute. Packed 10 to a carton, that is 30 cartons per minute for the cartoner and 30 boxes per minute reaching the overwrapper, the bottom of the LV-BT280 / LV-BT350's listed 30–80 boxes/min. Change the count per carton to 20 and the cartoner and overwrapper see half as many cartons. This shows the method; it is not a rating for any model.

  • Rejects: agree where each reject leaves the line, so that a rejected stick does not leave a carton one short.
  • Codes: decide which station prints the batch and expiry codes, and whether a later station must read them.
  • Transfer: say how cartons travel from the cartoner to the overwrapper, and whether the stations sit in a straight line or at an angle.

We supply single stations as well as complete lines. If you already run a stick packer or a cartoner, send its make, output and discharge height, and the new machine is matched to it. For the stick pack station on its own, the stick pack machine buying guide goes through lane count, film and dosing in more depth.

What happens after you send your pharmaceutical packaging details

Send what you have through WhatsApp or the project brief checklist, and mark anything you have not decided as unknown. We check which step and machine fit your pack and output, which options such as nitrogen flushing, dust extraction, leaflet insertion, inspection or a tear tape belong in the scope, and whether a sample test with your powder, film or boxes is worth running first. You then receive a configuration proposal, or a sample-test plan to agree before anything is shipped.

Questions buyers ask about pharmaceutical packaging machines

What types of machines are used in pharmaceutical packaging?

Primary packaging machines put the dose into its first pack: blister machines, bottle filling and counting lines, and stick pack and sachet machines for powders. Other machines then label, carton and overwrap those packs. We build the powder stick pack and sachet machines and the cartoning, overwrapping and vial labeling machines shown on this page.

What are the common types of packaging used for tablets?

Mostly blister packs and bottles, each usually sold in a folding carton with a leaflet, and sometimes with the carton wrapped in clear film. Our cartoners take blister packs and bottles of tablets into cartons, and our overwrapping machines wrap the finished cartons. The blister or bottle itself is made upstream.

Which pharmaceutical packaging machine is used for pills?

That depends on where the pills are packed. In a factory they go into blister packs or bottles, then into cartons. In a pharmacy, pill-dispensing machines pack patient doses, which we do not build. Our part starts after the blister or bottle: cartoning and overwrapping. If you also need the primary step, tell us and we confirm whether it is within our supply scope.

Can a multi-lane stick pack machine run probiotic or pharmaceutical powders?

Yes. Several of our multi-lane configurations are set up for probiotic and pharmaceutical powders, with a servo auger on each lane, vacuum dust extraction at the nozzle and sealing jaws and, on the probiotic lines, nitrogen flushing. Send a powder sample and the dose, because fill accuracy and dust control depend on how your powder flows.

What is a pharmaceutical overwrapping machine used for?

It wraps a finished medicine or supplement carton in a tight BOPP or cellophane film with folded, heat-sealed ends, usually with a tear tape for opening. The wrap keeps the carton clean and shows whether it has been opened. Our LV-BT280 / LV-BT350 lists boxes 40–200 × 20–120 × 10–70 mm at 30–80 boxes/min, depending on box size.

How does a pharmaceutical packaging machine work?

Each machine does one step. A stick pack machine pulls film over forming tubes, doses powder by auger into each lane, then seals and cuts the sticks. A cartoner erects a carton, loads the product and leaflet and closes the ends. An overwrapper folds film around the box and heat-seals it. Run together, they form a line.

How much does a pharmaceutical packaging machine cost?

We do not publish prices, because the machine type, the lane count or line stations, and options such as nitrogen flushing, dust extraction, leaflet insertion, inspection and change parts for each pack size change the quotation. The stick pack machine cost guide explains these factors for the stick pack station. Send the details in the table below and we quote that configuration.
